Introduction to Crystal Cat Litter
Crystal cat litter, also known as silica cat litter, is a granular cat litter primarily composed of silica.
Below is a detailed introduction:
Ingredients: The main ingredient is C-type block silica gel, which is made of natural silica, similar to the composition of ordinary cat litter. It is non-toxic and odorless.
Appearance: Typically appears as translucent white granules. Some brands add colored beads for visual enhancement. The granules are generally regular or irregular in shape, with a diameter generally ranging from 1 to 8 mm.
Product Features
High Water Absorbency: It can absorb over 80% of its weight in moisture while remaining dry. After absorbing urine, the silica granules turn from transparent to yellow. When 80% of the granules have changed color, the entire litter needs to be replaced.
Excellent Deodorizing Effect: The unique microporous structure effectively locks in ammonia molecules in urine, significantly outperforming traditional cat litter in deodorizing effects. It strongly absorbs and blocks odors, keeping indoor air fresh.
Low Dust: Crystal cat litter is lightweight, breaks easily, and produces virtually no dust, making it friendly to the respiratory health of both cats and their owners.
Long Lifespan: A three- to four-pound bag of crystal cat litter generally lasts a cat about a month, providing long-lasting effectiveness.
Instructions: It's recommended to use this in a double-layer litter box. Place a urine pad on the bottom layer to absorb excess liquid, and add an appropriate amount of crystal cat litter on the top layer. Replace the entire litter box when most of the particles have changed color.
Introduction to Cassava Cat Litter
Cassava cat litter is a natural, plant-based cat litter that has gained popularity in recent years. Made with cassava starch as its core ingredient, it combines environmental friendliness with comfort, making it a growing choice for cat-owning families. Below is a detailed introduction:
I. Core Ingredients and Production Process
The primary ingredient in cassava cat litter is cassava starch (typically accounting for over 80%). Some products add a small amount of natural plant fiber (such as corn fiber or pea fiber) or a food-grade binder (such as guar gum) to enhance clumping and firmness. During production, the raw materials undergo grinding, mixing, high-temperature extrusion granulation, and drying. No chemical preservatives or fragrances are added (some contain natural plant-derived fragrances), making it highly safe. Even if a cat accidentally ingests a small amount (such as while grooming), it is unlikely to cause gastrointestinal distress.
II. Appearance and Physical Properties
Color: The default color is the natural off-white or light yellow of cassava starch. Some brands add natural pigments (such as beet red or spinach green) to create colored granules, eliminating the risk of pigment residue.
Particle Form: Mostly uniform, long, or cylindrical particles, approximately 1.2-2mm in diameter and 3-5mm in length. They feel smooth and non-irritating, making them easy for cats to step on.
Density: Lightweight, weighing only 1/2-2/3 the weight of bentonite cat litter of the same volume, making it easier to handle and change.
III. Core Product Advantages
Strong clumping and non-dispersible: Cassava starch quickly forms a gel-like structure upon contact with water. Upon contact with urine, it solidifies into compact clumps within 30 seconds. This firmness is higher than that of ordinary tofu cat litter, making it less prone to breaking apart during cleaning and reducing litter waste. Even if a cat steps on the clumps repeatedly, they remain stable and unlikely to dislodge and contaminate the bottom litter.
Excellent water absorption: Cassava starch's porous structure allows it to absorb up to 6-8 times its weight in water, quickly trapping urine and preventing it from seeping into the bottom of the litter box. This reduces odor and bacterial growth, keeping the litter box dry for extended periods.
Natural Deodorization + Low Odor: Cassava itself has no pungent odor, and its starch structure absorbs ammonia molecules in urine. Some products are formulated with ingredients like green tea extract and activated carbon to further enhance its deodorizing properties. With normal use, a single litter tray can control odor for 3-5 days (solid waste needs to be removed daily).
Eco-friendly and flushable, easy to clean. As a natural plant-based cat litter, cassava cat litter is biodegradable, and clumps can be flushed directly down the toilet (it's recommended to flush 1-2 clumps at a time to avoid clogging). There's no need to dispose of them separately, making it particularly suitable for high-rise residents or those with inconvenient trash disposal.
Low Dust, Respiratory Friendly: Carefully screened and dust-removed during production, the dust content is typically ≤0.5%, significantly lower than traditional bentonite cat litter. This reduces dust inhalation during licking and prevents respiratory discomfort during cleaning. It's also more suitable for kittens, senior cats, and cats with sensitive respiratory tracts.
IV. Usage Recommendations
Litter Thickness: 3-5cm is recommended. A thinner litter box can easily allow urine to seep through the bottom of the litter box, while a thicker litter box can increase waste. If using a single-layer litter box, use a litter box mat to prevent urine leakage.
Cleaning Frequency: Remove solid waste and urine clumps daily. Refill the litter box 1-2 times a week, and replace the entire litter box every 2-3 weeks (depending on the number of cats and frequency of use).
Storage: Store tightly sealed after opening to prevent moisture and clumping (tapioca starch is highly hygroscopic and easily deteriorates in humid environments). Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
